Barry Smith, AIA
Technical Principal

Barry has over 18 years of experience, primarily working for two architectural firms in Salt Lake City. Barry has been involved in design/build and technical management of projects and later, as Principal in Charge on higher education projects for over 14 years. During this time, Barry was responsible for the technical aspects of projects and directing office activities and marketing.

As Technical Principal at HFS, Barry's role is to review and coordinate the needs of each project in design development, construction documents, and daily construction. Barry also provides technical assistance to HFS Project Managers.

Barry graduated from the University of Utah in 1978 with a Masters in Architecture. He truly enjoys his work and likes to be involved, in the community and in architectural and education associations. Barry served as the AIA Salt Lake Chapter President in 1995, and as the AIA Western Mountain Region Secretary in 1996. Barry has volunteered much time toward the Habitat for Humanity home which was recently designed and is currently being built by members of the Salt Lake Chapter AIA. Barry is a member of the Construction Specifications Institute and the Utah Seismic Safety Commission.

Barry has been trained in Value Engineering and has since participated in many State-organized (DFCM) VE sessions. In 1992 Barry received the Utah Society AIA Award as well as the Best Engineering Design award from Intermountain Contractor for the University of Utah Animal Resource Building.

Barry is currently involved in the American Fork City Public Library and the Morgan County Library and Senior Center. He has recently completed two office buildings for the Office of Workforce Services.
