For Release May 27, 1998 Contact: Holly Harris Salt Lake City Architects Assist in the Development of a Plan for Utah’s Future Salt Lake City, UT-- When the Envision Utah project discovered in recent months that Utah’s Wasatch Front area population would grow to 5 million by 2050, Salt Lake area architects decided to lend their expertise. Envision Utah is a community wide effort targeted at developing a long-term vision for Utah’s future. David Hart, AIA of Hart Fisher Smith & Associates, is a member of the Envision Utah committee and he enlisted the help of Salt Lake City members of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). At each Envision Utah Regional Design Workshop throughout the valley, the Architects have acted as facilitators assisting the community members in developing strategies and designs to handle development types and density as well as population growth. Those members of the AIA who have participated in the workshops are: Barry Smith, Stephen Ehninger, Angela Dean, John Hammond, Michael Retford, Donald Mahoney, James Christopher, Derek Payne, Elizabeth Mitchell, and Steve Crane. Fifteen Regional Design Workshops are being held throughout the summer across the Greater Wasatch Front. Results from these workshops will be used to help generate three major growth options for the area during the next 25-50 years.
